Fellow workers, we have great news to share regarding our contract campaign!

On Monday, September 9, several graduate workers in GEO, and one supportive faculty member in MSP, attended the Amherst Town Council Regular Meeting to share their experiences dealing with the unprecedented housing crisis in the area and request support for our petition for a living wage.

Since then, GEO has received requests for comment on these issues from local media outlets like the Daily Hampshire Gazette, who wrote this piece about our petition and demands for a living wage!

Multiple members of the Town Council expressed support and willingness to help us in our campaign for dignity as workers and a reasonable quality of life. While the Amherst Town Council does not hold legislative power over the University of Massachusetts, councilors have offered their personal support for our cause.

There is always more work to be done in getting legislators and the media to think about, understand, and address our concerns, but this is a major step towards success. I hope you will join us in congratulating our talented members on a great job getting our name and cause out there!
