We are writing to announce that nominations are now open for an interim GEO co-chair position! Please see below for the nomination call for all of this position, including information about the position and the nomination and election process. Any full member in good standing may nominate themselves or another member in good standing for this position. All positions will begin immediately upon conclusion of the election: March 25 at 4pm.
The interim co-chair will serve for the duration of the spring semester and will be up for re-election during the regular spring elections of officers in the second half of April. The position comes with a 20-hour, GEO-protected assistantship, paid for by the Provost’s Office. The contract will be processed effective immediately upon the conclusion of the election.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: chairing Steering Committee meetings and General Membership meetings and ensuring agendas are set for both; and acting as primary GEO representatives to the Joint Council of Local 2322 and therefore attending Joint Council meetings. Except where otherwise noted, the co-chairs shall be considered the official representatives of GEO to the Administration and in all external relations; sign agreements between GEO and the University (with approval of the General Membership and/or Assembly of Stewards); serve as liaisons for the Steering Committee to the Staff; ensure GEO representation at Central Labor Council meetings; speak on behalf of GEO to media, the University, etc., and manage the production of media and publicity; act as primary liaisons between GEO and other Unions; oversee publication of GEO newsletter and web page; organizing Standing Committees; and assist the union in achieving its overall mission in the workplace.
NOMINATIONS PROCESS
To nominate yourself or someone else, write to GEO’s Steering Committee at steering AND GEO’s Elections Committee at elections. (Be sure to write to both committees!) When you do so, please send along a short candidate statement (no longer than 500 words) to be shared with the membership when the nominations period concludes. Any full member in good standing may nominate someone, including themself, for any of the positions outlined above. Nominations are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 11; at that point all candidates will receive further instructions from the Elections Committee regarding campaign materials and election rules. The election will be conducted in the days leading up to and including March 25. More details about dates, times, locations, and modality of voting will be distributed after nominations close.
