Fellow workers,
We are writing to remind you that some members will need to manually re-enroll in Student Health Benefits Plan for the spring semester. In particular, those graduate student employees who are not signed up for credits (i.e. you are on continuing enrollment) will need to manually re-enroll for the SHBP this semester.
Typically, members using the family plan during the fall semester have had to manually re-enroll for coverage in the spring. UHS recently sent out a communication saying that this is no longer the case and that family plans only require fall enrollment to secure coverage for the whole year. However, Patient Services’ website has not been updated to reflect this, and we would encourage everyone to check with Patient Services or Wellfleet regarding your coverage and whether or not you will need to re-enroll.
To manually enroll: fill out patientservices. The deadline for manual enrollment in the SHBP is the same as the deadline to waive coverage on SPIRE: February 19, 2023. (Please note this is the date advertised in the email sent by Patient Services rather than the date on their website. We are working to find out the correct date and will update everyone as soon as we have that information.)
Whether you are automatically enrolled or need to enroll manually, the 95% cost reduction for the SHBP and health fees will be applied to your bursar’s bill as long as you are working in a GEO-protected position and earning the equivalent of a 190-hour assistantship at the GEO minimum rate (i.e. 10 hours a week for 19 weeks, the length of a standard semester contract). For more information about the details of the insurance cost reduction, you can check out geo.
